Player Profile #3: Josh Scott

In the winter of 2016 Mark Tattersall's penchant for pints paid off when he struck gold and recruited Josh Scott (and others) in a pub.

Back then he was Sexy Josh (leaving the sobriquet of Ugly Josh to Mr Hook). After five years on the Tattersall Diet he has bulked up to become Fat Josh (leaving the sobriquet of Beardy Josh to Mr Hook).

Or The Melt.

During his early days with the club Josh worked as a steward at lord's during the test matches. Back then he looked forward to going to the ground to soak in the atmosphere and the tradition. This week he's at the famous old ground for the New Zealand test and is most looking forward to lunch.

On the pitch Josh has firmly established himself as Offley's first choice new ball bowler and unlike many of his contemporaries manages to look the part as he bustles to the crease and hits the seam with a certain degree of pace.

Unlike the rest of the seam attack, Josh would have no chance of beating one of his deliveries to the other end in a sprint.

Despite his background as a chef he rarely serves up pies to the batsmen although he is not averse to sending down the occasional long hop.

Josh's ascension to new ball pace ace represents quite a change in role as when he first rocked up he was a spinner of sorts who batted in the middle order.

Perhaps his finest moment with the bat came when he contributed two scratchy singles to a stand of 89 for the second wicket at Northampton Exiles, an effort that out-Austined Austin.

These days he is more likely to be found towards the tail and this season achieved the impressive feat of being bounced out at Offley. However, he is closing in on the double of 50 wickets and 1000 runs for the club.

While he is not quite so fleet as foot across the turf as he was pre-lockdown, he probably possesses the best hands in the club and unlike most of his colleagues is capable of throwing the ball in with pace and accuracy.

Josh has also demonstrated leadership qualities, captaining the team in the Hertfordshire Village Trophy where he ballsed things up somewhat in the semi-final by electing to open the batting with "No Shot McDermott".

He is also Dan Goord's trusted vice-captain, the Deputy Dan if you will.

Did You Know: Josh is the only player in Offley history to be dumped in favour of a soap star.
